2 - Career Readiness Workshops

With Vance’s vast years of experience working directly with organizations to hire talent, Vance created a selection of eight (8) workshops he believes are crucial to an individual’s career readiness. Vance E. Anderson, Consulting will partner with your organization to facilitate any of the following career readiness workshops to your student population.

(Estimated length of each workshop: 1.5 hours each)

  • Resume Development (From a Recruiter’s Perspective)

    This is for individuals who have never created a resume and have no clue where to start, or those that need some fine tuning of their resume, but not sure how to fine tune. In this workshop, we discuss resume formats, what sections of the resume recruiter’s pay most attention, and what questions you need to ask yourself to identify the appropriate content for creating your resume.

  • Interview Preparation (Closing the Deal!)

    Not many people get the opportunity to interview, and when they do, they should know the key to landing a job is a great interview! “Closing the Deal” workshop covers how each stage of the interviewing process requires careful preparation, and what students should do Before, During and After the interview. The workshop consists of presentation material to allow for hearty discussions and opportunity for learning as a group.

  • Emotional Intelligence (In and Out of the Workplace)

    Whether you are in or out of the workplace, life can make you feel as if you are on an emotional rollercoaster. In this workshop, we discuss emotional intelligence, how do you become emotionally intelligent, and the benefits. This workshop promotes stress reduction, conflict resolution and improves overall life satisfaction.

  • Job Offer Negotiation

    When individuals get a job offer, they typically celebrate. However, next to getting a job offer, negotiating your starting salary is the most important thing you can do before accepting an offer! In this workshop, we talk about why it’s important to negotiate, what you can potentially negotiate and how to negotiate. Individuals walk away with the knowledge needed to negotiate any offer they receive.

  • LinkedIn Profile Development

    Great for high school and/or college students not familiar with LinkedIn, the primary focus of this workshop it to teach students how to create a strong profile to increase overall visibility to peers, recruiters and possible future employers, and we discuss why LinkedIn plays an important part in the job search and network process.

  • Networking & The Job Search

    When searching for a job, networking is everything, and given the advent of social media, networking’s importance in finding work has increased dramatically. The primary focus of this workshop is educating individuals on the why and how of networking. We dig into individual styles, connections, pitch, informational interviews and much more. This is a must have workshop for those looking to step up their networking and job search game plan.

  • Personal Branding

    Whether working for a company with 100 or 10,000 employees, it’s easy to get lost in the crowd. However, “Personal Branding” is a great way to emerge from the masses. This workshop discusses why personal branding is important, and what you can do to develop your own personal brand in the workplace.

  • Understanding Workplace Dynamics

    We spend a significant portion of our day, year and life working. In this workshop, we discuss that various aspects of what one can experience in the workplace. We look at both individual and group dynamics within the workplace, and the positive and negative impacts each can have on individual’s workplace experience and performance.


3 - Precision Workshops

We offer three (3) Precision Workshops. These workshops are facilitated over a 4 - 5 week period of time to allow for in-depth delivery of material, and in-depth understanding of the material. Precision workshops are very hands-on, and individuals must commit to the 4 – 5 weeks, or they will not reap the full benefits from these workshops.

  1. Career Exploration (Discovery Program)

    It all starts with understanding self and who you are as an individual! We often don’t take the time to learn about self; however, it’s important to our future endeavors. When you take the time to learn more about your individual self, and your unique talents, you are more apt at selecting a career path that aligns with your personal values and interests.

    This is for High School and College students unsure of what they want to major in college or not clear how to define their talents. Also, those who are questioning if they are in the right major or want to consider other major options.

    This exploration is delivered through two Career Exploration workshops…

    1. Discovering Your Natural Talents

    2. Discovering Interests and How They Align with College Majors and / or Careers


    • Discovering Your Natural Talents (Minimum Requirements - Ninth Grade Reading Level)

      In this workshop, each student will complete an online assessment (StrengthsFinder) and be able to identify and understand his or her own unique combination of (Top 5) talents. By revealing the ways in which each student most naturally thinks, feels, and behaves, StrengthsFinder helps students discover and build upon the areas in which they have the most potential to develop and succeed. Students will gain an introduction to strengths-based development, and after completion of this workshop, students will learn how to lead a strengths-based life.

      Outcomes:

      • Understanding Your Top Five Talents

      • Learning to Effectively Communicate Your Talents

      • Using Your Talents to Build Relationships

      • Understanding Motivators and Engagement

      • Applying Talents in Academics and Careers

    • Discoverying Interests and How They Align with College and / or Careers (Minimum Requirements - Ninth Grade Reading Level)

      In this workshop, each student will complete an online assessment (Strong Interest Inventory). Whether considering education options for career preparation or looking into career choices or just starting out in a new career or changing careers, they benefit from the wealth of information provided from this workshop. After completion of this workshop, they will have identified key focus areas for continued education and / or career growth.

      Outcomes – Strong Interest Inventory with College Profile:

      • Identifying Your Top 5 Interest Areas

      • Identifying Your Top 10 Strong Occupations

      • Identifying Options for College Majors

      • Identifying Options for College Courses

      • Identifying Options for Internships / Job Settings

  2. Resume Development (Getting Past the GateKeepers)

    This is for High School or College students who have never created a resume and have no clue where to start, or those that need some fine tuning of their resume, but not sure how to fine tune. Vance facilitates a “Getting Past the GateKeepers” workshop where he breaks down each section of his “Getting Past the GateKeepers – A Resume Development Guide” which he created to teach students how to develop a resume from beginning to end.

    As Vance digs into the details of each section needed within the resume, he provides students with the knowledge and tools necessary to develop, update and complete their resumes. They will walk away feeling empowered and capable of completing a document which expresses a culmination of their experiences.

  3. Interview Preparation (Closing the Deal!) & Mock Interviews

    Necessary for all High School and College students, Vance provides a “Closing the Deal” workshop which covers what students should do Before, During and After the interview. The workshop consists of presentation material to allow for hearty discussions and opportunity for learning as a group, and it consists of facilitating large scale mock interviews with the students.

    This offering is best served in-person due to the mock interview process. However, due to COVID and stay at home orders, Vance is currently only providing the presentations to cover what to do Before, During and After the interview.   Please note: If requested, Vance is open to discussing remote mock interview options.
